Whilst at University Santokh Chhokar was involved in student union activities. He was elected President of the National Union of Asian Students two years in succession.
He has served as Honorary Treasurer and President of the Middlesex Law Society.
Santokh Chhokar takes an active interest and participates in community affairs. He has served as Chairman of the Trustees of the Sikh Missionary Society (UK) and General Secretary of India Association and the Sikh Forum International. Santokh Chhokar has been a Fellow of the Royal Society since 2005. Santokh Chhokar has acted as legal adviser to various charities and as a governor of several schools.
In 2005 he was elected Councillor of the Gerrards Cross Parish Council, and served on the Licensing, Planning and Finance and General Purposes Committees. In 2007 Santokh Chhokar was elected District Councillor for the Gerrards Cross East and Denham South West ward in the South Bucks District. In 2011 Santokh Chhokar was re-elected as District Councillor and for two years he served as Vice Chairman of South Bucks District Council. In 2013 he was elected Chairman and currently he is serving his second term as Chairman of South Bucks District Council.
In 2014 Santokh Chhokar was elected Deputy Chairman of Beaconsfield Constituency Conservative Association.
